  1. Look up PN and its causes on the web and see what fits you and take the info to your PCP and discuss if they feel it could be the reason. Many medications we take can also lead to symptoms of PN I have been told. Also heart disease can limit circulation to your extremities and cause numbness similar to PN. I am like you something caused it and you did not have it before you started getting the other presumptives. Good Luck to you!
  2. John the only benefit to me is a couple of years if they look at my claim under nehmer. That is when I was first denied. That is my only reason for filing. I am 100% P&T for my heart already sec to DM2.
  3. Thanks all! I was about having a an anxiety attack over this and just give up. My PTSD seems to kick in for the slightest little aggravation out of the norm! I have a time of filling out papers and finishing things in general. My wife really puts up with a lot from me. I will try and fill this out later today or over the weekend I am just annoyed I have to do this but I will.
  4. Personally I filed in Oct. of 09 for IHD and an EED but the VA somehow construed it to be a letter for increase and ended up giving me a C&P and granting 100% P&T but in doing so they also sent me acknowledgement that they will continue my claim form and EED and when the rules come out I will be considered for that. I would like to see us that have filed and been denied get the letter that our member Donna got that stated her hubby was part of the Nehmer class!
  5. In my opinion it is all going to come down to Nehmer and how it is going to be applied. It looks like it could fit in either of the instances but the VA may try and lowball. But think you will win in appeal. You do have the option of appealing the IU but why? Your IHD claim will more than likely be awarded quicker. I was lucky if you want to call it that in that I filed for both heart and DM2 and the same time but they denied my heart even though my LVE was 50% I had to wait until a heart attack in 05 to be rated at 60% sec to dm2. Easy for me to say but we all are just going to have to wait for these folks to get their heads screwed on right and award these claims. But like I said you will prevail and then you can fight for the right date!! Good Luck to you!
  6. Pappy I too am a hearing loss veteran. If you are rated disabled by the VA then you can call audiology at your local VAMC and they will test your ears for you and give you hearing aids if needed. As far as filing I would go have the tests first and see where that leads. Audiology with my VAMC is very good and they give the vets the top of the line aides with no charges. They will explain your test results and recommend to you what to do. I have worn an aide for my left ear since 1983 and the VA did not take over till 2005 but they have been very good to me since and has not cost me a dime! Good Luck to you!
  7. Well got a packet today from the SS and asking me all kinds of questions on my everyday functions? It looks like from reading their site that this is the 4th step and they have not been able to grant my claim to this point and need this function report to decide. Am I reading this correct or is this just always done?
  8. Not sure from your post but if you are SC for PTSD this paragraph I copied below may help your claim or others that suffer from psoriasis. I found this while reading the other day and it appears it has been known for a while. Psoriasis has long been recognized to be associated with potentially adverse effects on mental health. In the 1960s, a popular ad campaign labeled the emotional burden of this skin disease as the 'heartbreak of psoriasis.'
  9. Berta, I think you are right it does appear that they are finally starting to move on this for you. Good Luck! By the way I also sent an Iris couple of weeks ago asking about my EED claim for IHD and got an answer back saying they were going to have to check with the RO? I find that pretty good that they have to check! That info should be in the system. Seems they are just infected with the 2 steps forward and 2 backwards approach in anything they do. I also have not heard back when I asked them again in a follow up to that Iris?
  10. very good! Take care now and enjoy what is left of your life!
  11. I would ask this gentleman to show you the law. I have never sent originals for anything to the RO. I have had documents certified and send them in but they were copies of originals. Where is this guy located? I would consider reporting him if he continues.
  12. Filing a claim and all the ins and outs is mind boggling to everybody and sufferers of PTSD just compound it. If I did not have spell check I doubt anyone would be able to understand my points I am trying to make. And even with spell check some people have trouble with my sentence structure.I suffer from PTSD and try and stay away from things that get me all frustrated. I believe it is the norm for this disease. Back to your situation I have the feeling you would be better served by just dumping your claim on the DVA and try and get on with your life. I also will recommend that you go (even though you don't want to hear this) but go and get help. One of the best times to seek help is one you are at what you feel is your worst!
  13. I would think your review will stay the same. 3 years seems to be the norms these days.
  14. These tests from what I understand of them, are only useful if the shrink feels the participates have complied and done there best to answer and show a pattern. If they feel they are worthless and not completed properly they will be thrown out. Now that being said I am not implying you did not do your best but sounds like given you the tests shows no benefit to an analysis. I would ask for a written letter from the shrink as to why they are not being used.
  15. If you mean a C&P just be yourself and answer truthfully and let them know what your worst or average day is like. They will ask you a bunch of questions like they did when you first saw your VA shrink.
  16. I have never gone to my RO (6 hour drive) but I have seen posted in the past that you do have to have an appointment to view because there has to be someone with you the whole time and they have to find where your file is and pull it off someones desk or their file cabinet. How long ago did you send in a request for it? Mine took about 3 weeks before I got my copy.
  17. I filed my application online 7/20 and have not heard anything phone or mail. Should I worry or call?
  18. It is always a lot easier to have a DX before filing for something. Whether it be a VA doc or a private doc. My brother and ex marine vet was going through anger management class at the VA and it was suggested he might have PTSD. So they sent him to a VA shrink and turned out he was just and angry azz Marine! Hell I have known that for years! He does have DM2 real bad so I still don't cross him!
  19. Well John make sure the VA knows you are now on insulin that alone will get your DM2 up to 40%. It appears that you are really suffering from the effects of DM2! Sorry for that. Do you have or have you been tested for sleep apnea? With all those nerve conditions I would watch that closely. I am not a doc but that seems like a lot to me. Good Luck!
  20. I don't think it would be an identity theft if the made an appointment for you to come in but who knows these days. I do like you though find this quite odd. Please let us know if you can what goes on?
  21. Well I don't know the answer but I am basically doing the same thing. I was just awarded 100% P/T + housebound by the VA and filed for SSDI just last month. I have not heard anything from SS yet and did not send my approval letter to SS. Don't ask me why cause I just am not sure. I would expect that SS can look at my medical conditions and come up with the same conclusion if not it will be interesting what they say. Please let us know how it goes and I will do the same.
  22. Berta, I think with Webb putting a hold on payments that it inadvertently also help vets and the widows by keeping it in the news and on the front pages. I am sure he did not mean to do that. Ha HA! Also lets remember the VA is doing their own review of any and all claims that pertains to these 3. Donna not sure about your question but when the VA is reviewing the records they will be required to give the veteran the proper rating and if they don't the veteran will be told how to appeal. All of this is in the Training guide I posted for theses conditions. It is very clear to how the raters are to proceed with these claims.
  23. I live in a very busy area lot of disabled vets here. I can call and usually get in for shrink in 2-3 weeks and pcp 3-4 weeks. Of course I am 100%+housebound not sure if they treat me different or not. I use them for meds and some of my SC conditions but not all. My wife went back to work and has health care for me too. Plus she gets ChampUS I hope we are pretty set in case a real emergency comes up. My VAMC is about 25 miles away but like Pete999 I don't tend to care for them much. Good luck to you!
  24. IF and that is a big IF the criteria being used is that that is posted my LVE of 50% in 2002 should stand the scrutinize and be awarded back retro to 2003 as. I for one certainly hope this will be the case.
  25. I after my DM2 DX dropped close to 40lbs and my A1c was running like 5. and below. So my VA pcp took me off metformin and my glucose and A1c stayed low and I asked her if I was curred and she said no that you always have it but have it under control. I was dealing with the heart attack and depression stress and anxiety kicked in and then the PTSD took over and I could not shake it. They started me on meds for the PTSD and before long I was back up there weighing what I had when I first had the DX for DM2! I am doing a little bit better now but it is a chore not to eat. I feel my PTSD/depression caused this and I have not been able to reverse it. So is eating to much a secondary issue of PTSD I feel it could be. As far as help for you I would suggest you get into some kind of a regime a little a little at a time. Push yourself away from the computer and walk. Good Luck to you and hope you do read my post.
