Declining Va Benefits
I need to know how to go about declining VA benefits. I no longer wish to receive monies or any other benefit from them. I only want my retirement pay. Does anyone know the procedures for that?

Spouse Nexus Letters
From time to time I see that buddy letters are used to help develop the continuity and nexus of a claim. I also see recommendations for letters from a spouse, children or other family members. Does the VA really consider this strong probationer lay evidence? I hadn't thought about having my wife write a letter, but if it will put another nail in the claim, maybe I should. Any thoughts or past experiences? Happy Labor Day! Mark

ptsd Will They Do Another Exam If Already Diagnosed?
Hello! This is my first post, and although I've been reading many topics, I'm a bit unsure what to post. I was diagnosed with PTSD MST at a veteran's hospital 3 years ago. I just recently filed a claim. If I have been diagnosed by a MST psychiatrist at a VA hospital will they do another exam since I have filed for disability? It has taken me 17 years to tell my story, and I really don't want to do it again, as I'm sure is common with this type of thing.

hypertension Gout
Just was told I have gout from the VA Clinic. Is it possible to link gout secondary to hypertension? I've been having these gout attacks on my right knee and foot 2-4 times a month for the last 3 years. I always thought they were residual pain from previous stroke.

Help With Knee Mri Results
I have had some knee pain in the past and was orginally rated at 0% for tendoninitis (about 3 years ago) but I don't think this was the most accurate diagnosis or rating. I have been going to a VA doctor and have complained continously about catching, popping, grinding, and pain. I finally had an x-ray and MRI but am not really sure what it means and I definitely can't find anything in the schedule of ratings that matches.. Any help deciphering the write up and how this could possibly be rated (code) would be appreciated. MRI- thinning of ACL distally…articular cartilage of medial and lateral joint spaces demonstrate mild heterogeneity without evidence of thinning or…

ptsd Ptsd Question
Back in 1989(during my Air Force career) I was attacked and beat up pretty badly. I was unconscious for approx 3 hours and sufferd a concussion. My left ankle was broken and I now have a plate and screws in my ankle to remind of this incident daily. The Air Force immediately rendered me not qualified to serve and discharged me. They gave me a 10% rating on my ankle and a check for 20000.00 They taxed the crap out of the check and i was left with the scraps. Anyhow since the incidence I have had panick attacks, severe nightmares, anger issues, marital problems and work issues with my fellow employees and bosses. Things have gotten worse since the attack and I did no…

I'm In The Hospital Right Now.
Hello everyone, I am currently in a navy hospital in the suicide prevention ward. So open doors, escorted to the bathroom, etc. I have been diagnosed with Panic Disorder w/o agoraphobia and adjustment disorder. I have also recently reported hallucination and severe paranoia while having an attack. I have been experiencing a depression for about 2 years but never bothered to report it until now. Recently Awarded For Sleep Apnea; Do I Claim Previous Supplies?
I was recently approved for Sleep Apnea backdated to my discharge date of almost 4 years ago. I use Tricare overseas and am registered within the VA foreign benefits program. Should I / Can I claim the purchase of the CPAP machine and supplies (my Tricare cost-share portion) over the years? Do I continue to get my CPAP supplies through Tricare since I live overseas, or have the hospital providing the supplies bill the VA directly? Thus far, I am getting all of my medications for VA accepted disabilities through Tricare and nothing through the VA perhaps because I live overseas but this bills the costs from another DOD pot of money. What is the norm for people…

Numbness In Right Hand From Neck Issue.
I have a question about one of my items. It is about my numbness in my right hand, arm, and up to my shoulder. The VA said it doesn't require a separate rating. I talked to a friend of mine who did med boards in the CG, and said it should be rated separate. I am looking for an opinion how much I might be looking at, and is it worth the time. Any advice would be great. Below is what the VA said. 3. Service connection for degenerative disc disease, cervical spine, with right hand parasthesias is granted with a evaluation of 20 percent effective Jauuary 1,2011. It should also be noted that the examiner found evidence of right upper extremity parasthesias; howev…

Got Unofficial Letter From Dav, How Much Longer Now?
My hubby just got unofficial letter from DAV on July 6, 2012 from claim filed back in December 2007. It says a combined evaluation of 40% has been assigned as a result of the following actions: Service connection for post-traumatic stress disorder with depression is granted with an evaluation of 30% effective 12/2007. How much longer might it be before he gets official letter? Also does this mean he most likely will not get anything for his other illnesses? Thanks.

Veteran Benefits?
If a veteran has multiple enlistments for example 1971-1984 obviously he had had many years of "good service" but in his last year of service he screwed up and was given a Chapter 10 in lieu of a court martial he was exposed to AO on the DMZ in Korea and has DM2 and a few other medical issues that would be or could be connected to his period of good service is it possible for him to file and get a compensation claim approved or is his Chapter 10 going to keep him from being able to get veteran benefits? If nothing else might he be eligible for a pension as he is unemployable and he did get hazardous duty pay while in Korea and served during the Vietnam W…
