ptsd Please Help Me Get My Dh Started With His Claim
My poor DH. He's in a tail-spin, and I want to grab hold of him but it's scary. I've said before, he wants to file a claim for PTSD. He needs to file a claim. He should file a claim. His VA therapist is urging him to do it, because he thinks it might help a bit. He has the PTSD dx from his VA psychiatrist, and his therapist has another VA psychiatrist on deck to start seeing him soon (old psychiatrist p'o'd DH, DH kinda scared him, guess it was good in the end). VA therapist has said that new psychiatrist will certainly connect the PTSD to his in-service trauma. Got SMR's, got C-file. From my skimming through the SMRs, an un-trained sloth could connect the dots…

ptsd I Have No Clue
First of all I am 0% sc for fracture of lower jaw, roof of mouth and loss of teeth (11 of them at one time). Now here comes the confusing part. Filed a claim for TBI, PTSD, Anxeity, Major Depression, and IU with Severe COPD. Nsc may cover the COPD part, not sure. All of these are documented by MH at local VA. for the past 20 years. In each case meds have been increasing. My C&P exam clearly states "Vet meets criteria for PTSD". I have read Cfr 38 untill my eyes are falling out and the forums here to find out if they all tie together and roughly what % it may be. This all started 27 years ago in a peace time era. One part of 38 says it has to be combat related anoth…

ptsd New Breed Of Counselors Deals With Veterans' Ptsd
New Breed Of Counselors Deals With Veterans' PTSD By RINKER BUCK - The Hartford Courant - 2/23/09 - Link To Story Jay White spent his first day in Baghdad in 2003 camping beside a dead U.S. Army soldier in a body bag. In a very real sense, this would determine his career, an increasingly important one as the United States sends more troops to Afghanistan. Trained as a mental health specialist at Fort Sam Houston in Texas, White has experienced the horrors of war during two tours in Iraq. This has prepared him to counsel soldiers who can't forget, or cope with, their own horrific experiences in Afghanistan and Iraq. White, 37, of Cromwell, is an outreach couns…

ptsd Ptsd Response
Called the 1-800 # today and hit 0 and waited about 5 minutes before a gentleman came on. He immediately ask me for the normal information, and told him that I was sensitive seven, and he transferred me to a Lady that had the correct classification. She told me that my PTSD re-examination was still under review, and they were trying to determine if they need more evidence. Now, I had the C&P done back last Oct 2010. I just do not understand what other evidence they could need after the C&P. I do know that on my first C&P, the doctor gave me a GAF of 55, but I was in and out. The second Doctor gave me a GAF of 50, and gave a more detailed report of my su…

ptsd Fighting My Fear Of Homelessness With Quiting My Job
I was just awarded 30% PTSD (took them only one month from my evaluation on April 4, 2011) plus they raised my percentage for my degenerative disc disease from 10 to 20% to a combined rating of 40%. I am relieved since I've been out of the service for 23 years. I am enrolled in the voc rehab program, but that has been a long slow road. I was a combat videographer in the Army (SOCOM) and have been in that profession since separating from the Army in 1988 but I cannot do the work anymore. It's too much for my back. I can no longer hold a camera for any length of time. I've unknowingly been dealing with PTSD for 23 since separating from the service and it has caused a …

ptsd Unsure About Ptsd Claim
My husbad was in the Persian Gulf. His DD214 shows Combat Action Ribbon and Southwest Asia Service Medal w/bronze Star, Kuwait Liberation Medal Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. We have recently (July 2010) filed a claim for PTSD. We have received the VCAA notice, and a letter stating they are still working on the claim. We have a service rep at the VAC who told us that the next letter to expect is to schedule the C&P Exam. About 5 years ago my husband was diagnosed with BiPolar Disorder by a private psychiatrist. He has been taking medicine for it ever since. Little did we know at the time that the symptoms for Bi Polar and PTSD are very similar, with the exception…

ptsd Appeal Process?
In 2009, I was finally awarded 10% disability for a 1985 back injury while active duty with the US Army. After the injury, I received several months of physical therapy, so I was pretty surprised and dismayed at the low rating, but after 24 years but I was thankful I was even acknowledged by the VA. Also during my time on active duty, I was witness to some pretty horrible things in Central America, plus I was very close to impact of a C130 crash at Ft. Bragg in 1987. I filed a claim in 2010 and was awarded 30% for PTSD in May. I am pretty disappointed in the initial rating for both my back and my PTSD and would like to file an appeal because since I got out of the A…
