  1. when awarding me IU, the rater stated my employment history (news reporter) coupled with my education (bachelor's degree) would make it near impossible to retrain.
  2. your letter should state no more examinations plus give you info on applying for chapter 35 benefits. my letter didn't state i was p&t either.
  3. jimmer, if you are eligible for chapter 35 benefits, then you are permanent and total!!
  4. the pa that signed off indicated she was an ortho specialist as i saw this while reading.
  5. that is NOT what i was told when i got out in 1988. i was told by the va that only the original 10 percent i was initially awarded would go to recoup my seperation pay. anything above that i would receive. and i was told this numerous times!
  6. what about if you are wheelchair bound and your disabilities limit your public activities?
  7. i can tell you about the number of veterans who lived in the same apartment complex i did who sold their pain pills. always crying about how much they hurt. but not crying over the money they got. i think thats one of the reasons my va does periodic drug screens to make sure you are taking your prescribed medicine.
  8. this is old news and has been talked about for years. back in july, the va, members of veteran service organizations and a member from the gao met with members of the house armed services comittee. they presented several different options beside reverting veterans reaching full retirerment age back to their actual rating. it hasn't gone any farther. with fy2017 budget levels already agreed upon (and above the sequester levels), this is doubtful before fy 2018.
  9. unless things have changed, if he got lump sum, he was found to be either 10 or 20 percent. when i got out in 1988, you got two months base pay times the number of years active duty, not to exceed 12.
  10. i have both great and horrible experiences with dav. just depends on the person. some go out of there way to help. and others find ways to hurt you. i have a lifetime membership with then. but they no longer represent me.
  11. andy, if the marine got 30 percent from the military, he would have been considered military retired. you only got compensation, if you were found to be 10 or 20 percent. and, yes, i had to go through the same thing when i got my va service connected disability. took a long time for the va to recoup that too.
  12. i was med boarded out and only got 10 percent for my back and almost $32,000 in cash.
  13. i have lived in florida since i was 13, minus 11 years active duty. thats over 40 years. i do not consider this an expensive state to live in. there is no state income tax. and sales tax is 7%.
  14. funny, because the va went out of its way to award me IU. claim was approved within 90 days. they called me first to make sure i wanted to proceed. ortho doctor looked at my records and then me, and said the va had wasted our time because it was a slam dunk.
  15. but nothing in your service record? i had totally forgotten about issues i had in the navy. but the psychiatrist who did my exam took time to review my navy medical record.
  16. i would be concerned reading the doctors last comments as there is no nexus or eval from a va mh practioner. i had both plus the all important it is at least as likely as not. i got 30 percent. hope good things for you.
  17. i live in florida and i do not believe it to be a common law state.
  18. is this only for vets with ptsd? i ask because my discharge was a general under honorable conditions because it was medically related. i got out in 1988 so i don't know what the policy is now. but my discharge got me va medical care and service connected disabilities.
  19. have you ever had an emg? i have had several which documented my radiculopathy. they stick needles along your arms or leg to see if there is a disruption. sounds painful but it isn't!
  20. my depression c&p was about an hour and covered everything from soup to nut. expect to be asked some very personal questions about your life, growing up and so forth!
  21. andy, what did the mri show? if you posted before, i apologize as i don't remember. thanks.
