PTSD Diagnosis from my Doctor over a VA Doctor
I was concerned because my Stressors were never reported in the Military, I have been fortunate to have two eyewitnesses write me statements on the events. I have been seeing a psychologist for about 6 months now and It has greatly helped me coping with my day to day life. My relationship with my wife has improved, but I still encounter my issues but with my psychologist's training I am able to come back to earth. My psychologist stated he would write me a letter and fill out the DBQ form for PTSD on my behalf. I am currently awaiting an exam for PTSD with the VA (filed in October). I built a relationship with my Psychologist and I fear that the VA examiner will not belie…

ptsd Confused And Could Use Some Tips And Advice
Hi, I have recently started the claims process with the VA (I filed an informal claim on 04-Sept-2013 I see a private therapist and have a current diagnosis of PTSD, Bipolar II, poly substance abuse. My therapist agrees with me that my disorders are SC I've taken the initiative already to get copies of my DD214 as well as my private medical records. Currently I'm trying to track down my records from when I was placed on a 72 hr hold in a psych ward in 2000. My prescribing Psychologist, who puts in time at the practice I go to, is also a VA doc. I guess my question is this. If my therapist tells me that they have diagnosed me with the above disorder…

Newbie question...
I have put in for PTSD claim at the Atlanta VA. They sent me to an offsite Veteran's Health Administration (VHA) for a 2 month therapy session. HOWEVER, On the first and second visits, they gave me a form that states and they explicitly told me the following: "Veteran's Health Admin.(VHA) services, including those offered by this program, are for the purposes of healthcare/treatment and are not provided for the purposes of establishing or increasing disability payments, which you may address more appropriately with the Veterans Benefits Admin. (VBA). In fact, the overall aim of this treatment program CONFLICTS with goals related to establishing oneself as disabl…

FSAD C&P Exam
Who ever is processing my claim is clearly looking after me and I'm trying to be grateful. Not everyone gets this type of attention. But here's the thing. I've not had a pap or well woman type appointment in a very long time, probably 10 years. In fact, I'm three years past due for a mammogram that was supposed to be done every three months because there is a mass visible in my x-rays. This is in large part to the trauma that caused me PTSD. It is also the driving force for me getting help, because I think it's stupid to die of a curable or preventable condition because I am scared of paper gowns and dark rooms. Anyhow, I claimed PTSD and it was approved. My guardian ange…

Please tell me this is worth it
OEF female vet here just starting the process of my PTSD/MST and Tinnitus claims. I'm gonna be really honest here : For many years I didn't file anything because I felt guilty filing claims next to soldiers missing limbs and suffering from TBI and other horrors. At the urging of a fellow friend and vet, I've started the process and have quickly gone from feeling guilty to becoming a total trainwreck. I met with a VSO last week and have slowly started working on my statement and I feel like a giant hole has been ripped open and everything is spilling over. It's affecting my job, my family, everything. I am having panic attacks and crying uncontrollably off and o…

Feedback on DBQ
Ok folks, I had my PTSD C&P last week and here is the short version of the results. My question is, am I at the 50% or 30% level? I meet the one aspect of 50% by the "Difficulty in establishing and maintaining effective work and social relationships" as checked in the DBQ by the C&P examiner. Just not sure what the rater will do as all my, "Symptoms are tagged extent as MILD." Thank you in advance for your feedback. Here is the short synopsis: This Veteran's self-report, the records reviewed on VBMS and CPRS, the test results, and my observations all are consistent with the diagnosis of PTSD. It is at least as likely as not (50% or hig…

PTSD Vs Complex PTSD
I have been rated for PTSD 309.81/F43.12 since 94 then i got a new Doc who I hated and he put down Complex PTSD. Does this affect my Rating at all from what I have read compex ptsd is not combat related whereas my PTSD has always been combat related. My last PTSD doc left the Complex PTSD on my active health problems but put the F43.12 in parentheses next to it and under the DSM 5 has PTSD with MDD, I was made P&T with IU back in 2008 for the PTSD and Stress Related headaches so the big question is does this complex PTSD change any of that. They do have me down as 90% with IU for 100% P&T still but I know the VA is big on these diagnostic codes and I do not want t…
