I am currently attempting to increase a rating from 40% to 100%. I should take it one step at a time but in the interest of quelling my curiosity I have a question. All the rating I will list are currently what I have except the TBI. I will list the TBI at 100% as this is what I am hopefully anticipating. What would this situation end up with rating wise? TBI 100% (not sure if it will be P&T)Psoriasis 60% Cervical spine 20%small joint 10%small joint 10%small joint 10%tinnitus 10% Also I am not home bound.

Ok all, I need a good head slapping! I know better, but STILL I had to call the 800# (duh). Philip, I sooooooooo feel your pain! Here we go.... When I have called, they would tell me that I am 90% combined. I've been 100%TDIU P&T since 1993 (granted P&T in 2008, dated back to 93, according to the 800#). Today, when I questioned why I am being shown as 90% combined, instead of 100% plus the additional disabilities, I was told that I am not 100%, I'm 90% combined. I questioned the TDIU, and it was agreed I was 100% TDIU, so I asked why the other disabilities weren't considered for SMC. I was told because I didn't have a 100% rating! I was then told that t…

I have the following serviced connected / Rated disabilities and want to know if I can receive SMC. 1.PTSD at 80% 2. IHD tied to AO and PTSD at 60%. Might go to 100% as my recent C&P showed 3-5 METS with unstable angina, dizziness, syncope 3.Lumbrosacral or Cervical Strain at 50% 4.Paralysis of sciatic nerve at 10% 5.Hypertensive vascular disease at 10% / 5 way by-pass 6. Loss of motion ring or little finger at 0% ./ VA operated on my finger when I returned from Vietnam in 1970. They said they could fix the pip joint and when I woke up they had fussed the bond in a fix position. I have been fighting this rating for 42 years. 7 Scars from wounds at 0% 8. N…

I am 100% for my latest filing. I was 30% before on completely unrelated conditions. I am sure that as soon as I yell uncle, they will give me another 50%. that would make about a 175%. Can you good folks tell me what that means with regards to SMC and just plain old 100%? hugs and kisses strange brothers and sisters. Good night. Ruski

Hi Veldrina - I'm looking for how the VA decides SMC(s) claims/awards. As near as I can tell the VA is not supposed to use the combined ratings chart when totaling the additional 60% for a SMC(s) claim. Can you tell me how they handle these claims, specifically regarding the 100%+60% claims?? If so, can you link me to any official documents(M-21, fast letters, OGC decisions, etc.) telling the RO's how to handle the claims?? Thanks!!! pr Oooops - wrong forum title- any moderator, please move to SMC Forum. Thanks!

From another thread I had started, there was a bit of discussion concerning SMC and additional disabilities. Here is a BVA case that shows once a Veteran is SMC eligible, any additional disability ratings ARE NOT combined.... http://www4.va.gov/vetapp10/files3/1021990.txt At the outset, the Veteran has been awarded entitlement to TDIU, effective June 10, 2002, primarily based upon his service-connected acquired psychiatric disorder. Effective June 10, 2002, the Veteran also met the criteria of having additional service-connected disability independently rating at 60 percent or more (left knee degenerative joint disease rated as 30 percent, left knee s…

I got TDIU two years ago. I didn't know anything about SMC. I Call the VA 800 line and they states that the VA put in for A&A for a claim in May2010. Can I get the VA to back pay me from 2 years old ago?

I hope I have a grasp on this, if not, I'm sure someone here will set me straight. I applied for, and was granted TDIU in 1993. Part of my claim was based on the fact that it took me almost 3 years (1990-1993) to be able to leave my house to even attempt to secure employment. I stated that I was not able to leave my home on my own, and when I did leave my home, I needed to be accompanied. I believe this actually satisfied the requirements for housebound, yet SMC (s) was never considered. 38 U.S.C. § 1114(s) provides that SMC at the (s) rate will be granted if a veteran has a service- connected disability rated as total, and (1) has additional service-connected d…

I am 100% Service connected permanent and total for rating. I am not sure what my SMC is, but will find out. I was recently qualified for Specially Adaptive Housing. "Due to Osteoarthrities of the low back with L4-5 stenosis, loss of use, right lower extremity, radiculopathy of the left leg and foot, left knee strain, right knee stran, radiculopathy of the right leg, right hip strain, and left hip strain". My loss of use is my right foot drop. Is there a chart that describes the various rating of SMC. I think I only receive $150 or so for SMC, should I file an appeal or request for review at a higher rating of SMC? Thanks, Greg
