Many of my health care providers ask me to call if I need anything, want to change appointment, to give them information and I laugh and tell them. "Have you ever tried to call the Dallas VAMC"? Yesterday I did and the first time I was on hold just to speak to an operator for over 15 minutes. Than the operator sent me to the wrong number and I had to ry again. By the time I got the worng person I had spent over forty minutes and found out that person had gone home early or about 3 PM. So I started again this morning about nine and the number is always busy. I have said it before I can get in my car drive to the VA and walk to the clinic faster than I can get to some…

Has anyone ever seen ED that was service connected, but denied compensation? My wife says I got a letter from the DAV that says compensation for ED was denied. I was granted service connection for ED in March on appeal, effective August of last year, rated 0%. There was no mention of SMC-K at that time in the award letter, so I filed a second claim specifically for SMC-K, with the basis of service connection being already granted for ED. Weird? Why would the DAV send a letter if the decision isn't 'final'? All the other ones ive gotten from them were the same as the Basis letters from the VA, though, so my next question is WTH? The letter (DAV) says:This letter is N…

Is this normal? I was granted ED on appeal, with a 0% rating, but there is no mention of SMC in my rating decision. I posted it in general claims, not realizing there was an SMC subfora, so here is the link:

Hi all, Would this qualify for some type of SMC and if so what type (SMC S, etc.) Vets C&P exam states that vet needs help getting dressed, shaving (can't stand in front of mirror), can't put on his knee brace, has a shower chair so he can shower himself. It also states he notes it has gotten him to a point where he can do very little. Needs assistance dressing (can't lift arms), needs assistance shaving; can no longer cook various menu items for he and his wife because of neck pain and because he can't stand in order to cook. Can no longer bowl. Can no longer do yardwork. Vet is 100% TDIU P&T. His combined rating is 80%. L Knee condition 60%,C-spine …

I went to see my VSO today so he could send in 21-2680 for A&A which he gave me to have filled out. My VA psy has stated for months that I need 24hr supervision and asked my wife to consider a nursing home, which my wife adamantly declined to even consider. Good for her!!! I had my last C&P in October of 2010 and the examiner stated in notes that I should be considered for A&A. I received my 100% P&T rating last month, but there was no mention of A&A in the award letter. I told my VSO and he stated that I have to ask for it. He gave me the 2680 form to have filled out by my doctor. My VA psy filled it out and returned it to me yesterday. …

I have been reading posts, asking questions, reading USC codes and Title 38 and I am more confused now than I ever was. For SMC. If I have a rating that is 60%, Service connected right knee with chronic resiudals following TKR. Can that rating be established as could or would be able to grant me TDIU?? If it was established that that single service connected condition at 60% could grant me IU, then would I be able to combine my other ratings to meet the 60% criteria for SMC S??? I have seen a lot of posts that state the rating for IU must be 70% to be considered total for the purpose of SMC S, is that true? Are Bi-lateral conditions considered when comp…

I got a letter about a month ago. I am a Nehmer case. I applied for Service Connected disability for IHD in July of 2000. I was denied. I had my first heart attack in 1985 and a myriad of heart episodes. My ejection fraction at my last Echo was 44% and no MET level was given. I've had 6 heart Myocardio Infarctions and 2 bypass surgeries, the latest in 2003. I know I will get a rating, but I don't know how long I'll be waiting. (Ebenefits says I'm in decision now.) Anyone know how long it has been taking? I got a disability rating in 2002 for 80%, (PTSD and Diabetes), with 20% Individual Unemployability. I have been getting paid at the 100% level since 2002. I…

Hi all: Is there a VA regulation that states that keeping your VA appointments is not a reason to deny SMC Housebound benefits? Thanks MikeS

For months now my psych. Dr. has been telling me I am severely depressed. I am presently 70% SC for Depression, so I requested my VSO too put in for an increase. I asked the VSO if I was increased to 100% for depression would I qualify for SMC-S as I would still have other disabilities rateable adding up to 60% or more. Other than the 70% for depression I have 50%,40%,30% 20%,20%, 1.3% for bilateral. VSO said No, you must have single disability rateable at 60% by itself too qualify for S, Is this true? Thank you, David

WAC-Vet75 and I have been discussing SMC(s) awards and how the additional 60% is totaled. See her recent posts and if you have the time give us your take. As an "insider," so to speak, you should be able to explain to us how the RO's deal w/this. Thanks you for your time!! pr

I posted the following question: vaslayer2002 wrote: Jim - I"m looking for an for how the VA adds the 60%, once the 100% or TDIU is met. Do they use traditional math/addition or do they use the combined ratings chart?? and this is the only answer I received from someone who posts as "Interested-1": SMC 100+60 - (Interested-1) 03-11-11 - 1:48 PM The additional 60% (after either the single 100% or the single 60% upon which TDIU was granted) is determined by your friend, the Combined Ratings Table at 38 CFR 4.25; don't forget the effect, if any, of the Bilateral Factor at 38 CFR 4.26. I've never posted there before but I hope that's not Jim sp…
