VA Scandals
Shreddergate and other scandals
On the 13th of October, 2008, VA Watchdog dot Org broke the story about documents found in shredder bins at the VA's Detroit Regional Office.
A number of those documents were critical to veterans' disability claims.
As the story unfolded, VA finally began to release information on the incident and we learned that more than one Regional Office was involved in this shredder scandal.
The VA's Office of Inspector General (VAOIG) is investigating.
VA has instituted new guidelines regarding handling of documents.

I don't do a lot of face to face with vets, these days. Years ago when the Vietnam vet wannabes and fakers, started to recount their days in the jungle. I would ask them one question: " So, what was your MOS?" A blank stare, or hesitation, usually gave them away. I am also a bit disappointed how the word "HERO", is thrown around, these days. It devalues the word and the deeds. Just being incountry, does not make one a hero.

On Wednesday February 3rd, I went to the VARO and presented a "NOD" to the intake clerk at the front desk. When I asked that it be date stamped, the clerk told me that the date stamp machine was taken in the back and that she would just write on the top " received VARO" with her initials. I told her that this was a time sensitive letter and insisted that she go in the back and stamp it in or put her supervisor's name on it as well, She verbally assaulted me and threatened to call "security" ( this means the goons with guns ). I suggested she either gets the letter stamped or call the VA police. I noticed, what appeared to be a supervisor peek his head o…

VA investigators find entire claims and other critical documents in shredding bins at Detroit Regional Office. VA official will only say, "I can't talk about that." http://www.vawatchdog.org/08/nf08/nfoct08/nf101308-1.htm

i see the VFW, AL, others writing more specific about accountability at VA in light of new VA wait-lists scandal, etc. however, from another VSO, at the below link, i don't see much call for accountability this link shows the other VSO and their requests to Congress regarding the new HR 4810 & S 2450 bills under review. i don't see that much about accountability with regards to correcting much of anything at VA. if its there, then i missed it: http://www.pva.org/site/apps/nlnet/content2.aspx?c=ajIRK9NJLcJ2E&b=6350111&ct=13996439¬oc=1 i don't see how an org such as VA can really be fixed of all the corruption without real accountability. vers…

In Part: "AUGUSTA, GA: A 50-count indictment, unsealed today in federal court, has charged Cathedral Henderson, 50, a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) employee and the former Chief of Fee Basis over non-VA Care at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia, with crimes related to his alleged falsification of the medical records of numerous VA patients. The indictment alleges that Henderson terminated unresolved consults – medical appointments that had not been scheduled or completed – by falsely stating in VA patients’ medical records that “services have been completed or patient refused services.” http://www.justice.gov/usao-sdga/pr/va-employee-…

After Obama gave his speech today I heard Ex-Military news commentators suggesting that vets should be given medicare/medicade cards and that the VA system is permanently broken. If all disabled vets were taken in under medicare that would suit me as long as I don't have to pay for it any more. I pay for medicare as it is, so I would be willing to trade VA health benefits for a medicare system that would take care of ALL my medical needs since I am 100%. If disabled vets were to be taken in under medicare we should not have to pay for it that is for sure. This probably won't happen anyway since their is gigantic political investment in the VA system including jobs and…

The Spokane VA emergency room that recently went part-time due to 'doctor shortage' or lead doc getting arrested for child molestation (depends on who you believe) had a town meeting. TeeVee Newz said 'so many vets showed up they had to open another room". (Is this the same lack of foresight that caused a 'world class healthcare' VA to close an ER at night?) "(one veteran) said most vets wanted to know what would happen if they needed emergency heath care after the hospital closes in the evening. Hospital staff said to call the VA before a trip to the hospital, and most of the time that would be enough to get the authorization for care. SO - Before going to an…

Vet Charged with $800K Fraud of Disability Benefits Gavel Mar 30, 2015 Daily Independent (Ashland, KY), by Mike James HUNTINGTON -- An Olive Hill Army veteran has been charged with cheating the U.S. Department of Veterans' Affairs out of about $800,000 in compensation and benefits since 1995. "An amendment sponsored by Rep. Jeff Miller, R-Fla., chairman of the House Veterans Affairs Committee, would allow VA to use $3.35 billion from the new Veterans Choice program to pay for private health care for veterans from May 1 to Oct. 1. Under the amendment, the VA could use up to $500 million from the Choice program to cover costs of treating the deadly hepatitis C virus. The VA has told Congress that it may shutter hospitals unless it receives flexibility to close a $2.5 billion shortfall caused by a sharp increase in demand by veterans for health care, including expensive treatments for hepatitis C. A single pill used for the liver-wasting infection can cost $1…

Well, everything I try to do on this site, even write a comment is censured. Not because of language, of false statements, but because the administrators must be blocking the facts getting out to you. Is this another VA site, or DAV? If it is DAV, I understand. I couldn't tolerate any more lies from them, and they did not want to speak up about the wrong decisions the VA made the last 45 years. We don't like each other, plain and simple. They seem to be the dirty side of the VA. I will say this. I believe I will be waited out, just like those men in Phoenix. The VA reinstated the woman and paid her back pay while she was off on administrative pay for the s…
